You will find our region rich in history, culture and heritage. The City of Plattsburgh, the Villages of Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, and the communities of Burlington, Vt., and Montreal, Canada, all provide cultural venues to study and enjoy varied connections to the past.
In particular, the region played a key role in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. The Underground Railroad has deep roots in the region, too. Other exciting experiences emerge as you travel throughout the county visiting museums and fine and performing arts locales.
Greater Plattsburgh also has a strong presence of civic groups.
Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration
The Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration includes a full week of historical events and activities appropriate for the whole family. Already a hit among many local residents, in 2010 the attraction earned national recognition as one of the American Bus Association's Top 100 events from across the country.
